What is Fiber Laser Cutting?

FYORD uses high-power fiber lasers (1.5 kW – 6 kW) to cut sheet metal with extreme precision. A concentrated laser beam melts and vaporises material along a programmed path, producing clean edges with no tool wear.

Unlike CO₂ lasers, fiber lasers cut reflective materials like copper and brass without risk of back-reflection damage — and at 3× the speed on thin materials.

Rules for Laser-Cut Parts

Following these guidelines ensures your parts cut cleanly and arrive on time.

🕳️ Minimum Hole Diameter

Minimum hole diameter = 1× material thickness. For a 3 mm plate, min hole = 3 mm. Smaller holes may not pierce cleanly.

📏 Minimum Slot Width

Slot width ≥ 1× material thickness. Narrow slots trap molten material and cause dross. Add 0.5 mm margin if tight-fit assembly.

🔲 Min Feature Distance

Keep features at least 2× material thickness apart. Closely spaced holes weaken thin webs and cause warping from heat.

✂️ Kerf Compensation

Our CAM software applies kerf offset automatically. Upload true-size geometry — don't pre-compensate. Kerf is 0.2–0.5 mm depending on material and thickness.

📐 Bend Allowance

If you plan to bend the laser-cut blank, include bend allowance in the flat pattern. Use K-factor 0.33 for mild steel, 0.38 for aluminium.

🗂️ File Preparation

Export as DXF (R12 or later). All geometry in one layer. Remove text, dimensions, and title blocks. Closed contours only — open paths will cause errors.

What file format do I need to upload?
We accept DXF (R12 or later), DWG, SVG, AI, and EPS. For best results use DXF with all geometry in model space, scale 1:1, with closed contours and no blocks or hatches. Our DFM checker runs automatically on upload.
How do you calculate the price?
Price = material cost (per kg) + cutting time (per cm² of cut path) + setup charge. Our algorithm nests parts efficiently to minimise material waste, and passes the saving back to you. The online quote is final — no surprises at invoice.
What is the minimum order?
Minimum order value is ₹999 per job. There is no minimum quantity — we cut single prototypes every day. For orders under ₹999, a ₹200 small-batch surcharge applies.
Can you cut thick material (10 mm+)?
Yes — our 6 kW machines cut mild steel up to 20 mm, SS up to 12 mm, and aluminium up to 10 mm. Above these values we recommend switching to waterjet cutting, which has no heat affected zone and handles any thickness up to 150 mm.
Do you ship outside Bengaluru?
Yes — we ship pan-India via Delhivery, BlueDart, and DTDC. Shipping is calculated at checkout based on dimensional weight. Most metro cities receive parts within 1 day of dispatch. GST invoice provided for all orders.
